Riding through the mundane

Last blog post of the semester! Today I'm going to write about something seemingly ordinary to my life that could possibly make for decent essay material. Car rides. Literally, everyone you've ever met has been on one (with the exception that you met a newborn at the hospital, today). However, everyone still has slightly different interpretations and opinions of their rides even if you ride them together. Opinions on long car rides, specifically, I find vary in opinion even more vastly. Some people hate the cramped spaces, while others love the sense of adventure brought with the territory. Personally, I think they're okay. Since my parents live in different states, I've had a lot of experience with long car rides; so I've learned to utilize them the best I can. Since there's no wifi out in the cornfields, I've found the 2.5-hour drive between houses grants me time to think about things I wouldn't normally have time for. Although half the time I indulg

The Hills

Hey guys, today I want to take y'all back a step. Do you remember "The Hills"? "The Hills" by The Weeknd came out in 2015. I didn't even have to press enter on my google search to find this out. It was like a calculation; google was programmed to already know the answer. Anyway, I want to share with you my experience with this classic. The first time I remember hearing "The Hills" was around a year after when "Trap Queen" by Fetty Wap came out in 2014. In 2015, I was around 12-13 years old, a very impressionable age in my opinion. Therefore, the first time I heard this song, hanging out with my cousins in my grandparent's bedroom, it was seared into my brain forever. Specifically, I think we were getting ready for church that night. The sun was just setting and there were curling irons on the bathroom counter. We also had a bunch of jewelry everywhere, bracelets on the floor and necklaces hanging from the lights. It was summer. For

paw patrol

Welcome back guys, today I have another puppy story for you. Enjoy! When we first moved to the Champaign-Urbana area, I didn't know where anything was or what "anything" was in the first place. Also, I had like zero friends out here so that left me with a bit of time on my hands. At first, this led to me taking my dog to the park and hanging out with her there when we lived closer. I would also walk her around the neighboorhood to explore what was where. Since it was mostly warm weather out when we moved, I found myself outside exploring a lot. It quickly became one of my go-to's when I was bored because I found exploring to be so much more interesting than hanging out inside (unless it was hot). All of the time I would take my dog because I felt safer when she was there because she was kind of a big dog and had a mean bark so people were scared of her; she needed a walk anyways. The walks usually ranged from 20-120 minutes back then and my parents didn't worr

Sweet as Honey

I used to have a dog named Honey. She was sweet and happy but she was also kind of dumb and could be a jerk sometimes. I love her anyway. When we first got her, my mom homeschooled my two siblings and I so she had constant attention. I took care of her, for the most part. For example, feeding or bathing her, taking her on walks, she even slept in my bed. However, last year we had to give her away because we couldn't take care of her and there was nobody for her to hang out with during the day. This lack of attention during the day led to her becoming sad and a little fat. I knew that this is not what I wanted for her and I knew she would be much happier elsewhere. However, I still didn't feel ready to let her go because she was my best friend. My siblings (now 10 and 15) wanted to keep her as well, but I found their reasons to be more on the selfish side. Anyways, one day, my mom said that she had found a home for her. At this point, I had been preparing for a while and tried

Gumbo

I used to have a cat named Gumbo. She wasn't startlingly my cat, however, she eventually achieved this position over an extensive time period of living at my house. Originally, I have no idea where Gumbo came from; my other cat, Spot, just brought her home one day and they became life mates so to speak. e did not think that Gumbo would stay for long because many of Spot's other love endeavors never stayed for long. She didn't really like people either, at first. Nobody was allowed to pet her or hold her and she hissed at anyone who got too close. After a while, after a couple batches of kittens, she opened up to human love. She began coming inside sometimes and letting her kittens be held. She enjoyed belly rubs sometimes when she was pregnant and laying in the sun. Another funny thing that Gumbo enjoyed was putting her new kittens in interesting places. For example, we used to have a these like big crate type things that we had a garden in. They basically looked like a wo

Puerto Rico > school

Hello, fellow people of Blogger. Today I'm going to tell you about a time I was having a better time than you. As you may or may not remember, I did not attend the first couple days of school last year; hence, a certain subbie got harassed by members of my class who only associate me with being white and having long hair. She has since left the school. In loving memory of this subbie, I will now give a few details of what I was doing in the meantime. In the picture above to the left, there are 6 people. From left to right there is Watcho, Omar, my mother, Natalie, me, and Angel. In that picture, we are hanging out on the beach, in this old tank. The beaches from both pictures are on an island off the coast of Puerto Rico. Primarily, my mother and I had planned a week trip to visit Puerto Rico's main island; however, we decided last minute to take a day trip to one of the coastal islands.  Since this was such a last-minute decision, when we got there it seemed we did
